Twitter & Twibes

April 30th, 2009

The Twitersphere is expanding as fast as the universe!  I will admit to being skeptical, but I have come around because of the tremendous value that micro-blogging can be, no matter what you are interested in.

I’m sure that there are plenty of Twitter subscribers that are using it to just keep up with friends, news and the rich and famous.  That’s fine.  At least they are learning about what they are interested in instead of letting the media stuff their agenda at them through the boob-tube!

I have a couple of sources that I follow that are in that category.  CNNBRK is one and I also follow twitscoop to keep up with what is happening on Twitter.

However mostly the Tweeters that I follow are in the Agile / Scrum software community.  The process of following and commenting on statements and questions is not only very fun, it also can push ideas around very quickly.  Even if a question asked does not get a good answer in 140 characters, at least you have an idea where to go and who to ask.

Then came Twibes .  With Twibes you can create a community within the Twitter user base that is keyword based so that all comments from the Twittersphere on that topic come into the Twibe list.  I created agile_coaches and belong to scrumdev.  While these two Twibes are very new, they are already getting some followers and it is growing steadily.   I think that the community will truley gain value from these nearly instant platforms to ask questions and let people share in your ideas.

Give it a try!  Create a Twitter account with your name or something you are interested in and see what happens for a few days.  Then if it seems like there are more birds like you tweeting,  start or join a Twibe!

Tweet on!
